According to police reports, a 23-year-old Houston man beat his girlfriend’s 5-week-old child to death because it wouldn’t stop crying. The man has been charged with felony injury to a child. According to statements from the mother, her boyfriend offered to care for the fussy child while she got some rest. The man took the newborn for a ride in the car, but upon return the baby was cold and lifeless. The couple took the child to the hospital to no avail. Authorities were contacted by the hospital staff after they noticed suspicious bruising. The man claimed that he did not hit the child, but his story did not match up to the evidence found on the child so the baby’s death was ruled a homicide. The mother of the deceased newborn can file criminal charges against her boyfriend. In cases like this, legal help is necessary for both parties.
